Description
This is a very nice, nearly uncirculated
"Five Cent"
piece from Canada. The initial year of the
"Nickel"
Five Cent pieces, it was struck at the Ottawa Mint and dated 1922 during the reign of George V who was King of Great Britain from May 6, 1910 until his death on January 20, 1936.
When the Canadian mint began to strike the hard
"Nickel"
nickels, they had the same difficulties with weakness of strike and die wear that the United States had had earlier. This first year comes in two varieties which are not listed in Krause but are shown in Charlton. The S in CENTS on the reverse is either
"Near"
on the original flat field strikes or
"Far"
from the rim of the coin on the later basined or curved field dies. The latter became the norm as it helped alleviate the problems. This one is quite
"Near"
.

The Coin:
A pleasing, lustrous example, it saw some few hands and has the normal light marks associated with that, but it is still fully original and has not been cleaned. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
