    Description

Epiphone Texan, model FT-79, USA built in 1967.  I'll leave the history, notoriety, etc., of this model for the reader to find elsewhere.  I'll simply describe the guitar and any relevant changes that have been made to its original condition.  The present overall condition is very good.  Solid "blonde" mahogany back and sides, spruce top, Brazilian rosewood fret board, solid mahogany neck. 25.5 inch scale, 1 9/16 nut width. These are the changes to its original condition:  Epiphone decal removed from pick guard; play wear in the form of small nicks, scratches, finish checking.  Prior to me owning it there were two top cracks running from the bridge to the lower bout edge nicely repaired with splines (visible in photo 3) and cleated and a small cleated top crack between the bridge and sound hole. An under saddle pickup was added.  Since I took ownership, I had a new nut and frets installed and fret board leveled. The bridge was removed and reglued and the original adjustable saddle was replaced with a rosewood insert and new bone saddle (excellent improvement in tone).  And the bridge plate was cleaned up - old K&K pick up discs removed.  All recent work done by a first-rate luthier.
The action is excellent...3/32 E string; 2/32 e string.  Straightedge test for neck straightness finds the straightedge landing right at base of saddle.  Plenty of saddle left to lower action if it should require that in the future.  All top and back braces in excellent, tight condition.
The original arched hardshell case is also in very good condition with a couple places with notable wear on the outside edges.  The interior is excellent.
This guitar is a joy to play.  The sound rivals any top shelf mahogany dreadnought - resonant deep bass, warm midrange and bright treble.  Stellar Gibson tone with the advantage of a long scale.
