Antique German Painted Bisque Jointed Spanish Folk Doll Pair MIB Box 4" 10 cm

Description

This pair of beautiful dolls comes from an estate collection that spans four generations.
Each is all-bisque with one-piece head and torso,
jointed arms and legs, and painted features, hair and shoes
.  They are in the original box, marked Germany" and the boy has "Germany" marked on the leg, too.  They have their original traditional folk costumes and measure
4" (10 cm.) The girl wears a felt dress with flowers, a lace mantilla and white panties. The boy has a black felt suit trimmed with ribbon, a felt cap and a broad-brimmed black felt hat.
The dolls have been carefully stored for many years. They may have minor damage consistent with age as shown in photos. Please review all photos as an important part of the description.
Here is some information on the provenance of the collection which may help with the age and source of the dolls. Great grandmother "Noni" was born in Scotland in the 1860's, attended the University of California at Berkeley in the 1880's, went to Europe to study for a time, and then married and returned to Princeton, New Jersey. Her sister and brother were both missionaries in China and India, and when Noni visited them she brought back souvenir dolls. Others in the family also traveled and brought back dolls, so there is a wide variety of unusual dolls in the collection. Noni died in 1953, so we expect all dolls date prior to the early 1950's, and some are much older. The dolls were finally inherited by the great granddaughter who was born in 1947, and are offered now for your consideration.
